Greene 25, Unatego 19 (OT)
OTEGO – Facing its stiffest test to date, Greene passed with flying colors Saturday night beating Unatego in overtime.
Getting the ball first to start the extra period, Greene powered toward the goal line with running back Keegan Cerwinski. On the fifth play of the short drive, Cerwinski fumbled near the goal line, but the loose ball was recovered by teammate Dan Haskell for the go-ahead touchdown.
Unatego, who had scored twice in the fourth quarter to force OT, was stopped in its tracks on four plays. During that final sequence of plays, Greene had a sack, and an interception by Dan Treadwell ended the Class C Division V clash. “Unatego definitely had a lot of confidence coming into the game, and we’re going to get everybody’s best shot,” said Greene coach Tim Paske. “Unatego was a lot quicker than we anticipated and much more physical than we thought they would be. Our kids stepped up in a tight game when the ball wasn’t always bouncing our way. Good teams find ways to win games like this, and it was a character-builder for us.”
Greene erased a 6-0 first-quarter deficit with a pair of second-quarter touchdowns. Cerwinski completed long drives with scoring runs of three and 10 yards. The lead grew to 19-6 in the third on Jeff Carlin’s 11-yard TD scamper.
