Girls’ Swimming
Norwich 90, Greene 74
NORWICH – Norwich clinched its third victory in four meets with three events to go in Tuesday night’s non-league contest with local rival Greene.
The Tornado, despite limited practice time the past two weeks, put together several outstanding performances in winning seven of the first nine events. The Tornado swam strictly exhibition over the final three races. “We were able to get a good lead, and our girls fought for every point,” said Norwich coach Amanda Downey. “I have more swimmers this year that are coming in second and third. The younger girls coming through have a lot of potential, and that is making a big difference.”
Kerstin Franklin had a pair of early wins taking the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Erin Gawronski captured two events, the 200 individual medley and 500 free, and Morgan Hagenbuch won the diving with a season-best 137.20.
Greene’s Jennifer Yeager provided her team with wins in the 200 freestyle, while adding the 100 free to her day’s effort. Jessie Brooks and Erica Bentley picked up individual wins for the Trojans, too.
Norwich’s Friday meet with Maine-Endwell was postponed to a later date. The Tornado are idle until next Thursday when they host Oneonta.
