COVENTRY – The Coventry Town Museum will hold its 7th annual Civil War Commemorative event beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday at the Congregational Church.

“The event is always embraced by the community,” said Janine Hakim, vice president of the Coventry Town Museum association. “It’s a great opportunity to remember and celebrate those times with food, music and the community coming together.”

The event is titled “Letters Home to Coventryville from the War” and will honor Sergeant Henry Andrews, who sent more than 130 letters home to his wife during the four years he was fighting.

Andrews’ descendent, James Blakeslee, will be on hand to answer questions about his ancestor and the process by which the letters came into his possession and were subsequently given to the Coventry Museum. Nancy Bromley of the Greene Historical Society will read excerpts from the letters and answer questions.
