Norwich 103, Susquehanna Valley 71
NORWICH – On senior recognition night Friday, Norwich won for the fifth time in six meets this season dominating Susquehanna Valley. The win spotlighted Norwich’s overall depth advantage over the Sabers who won just three events on the night.
“I think overall, we swam pretty well,” said Norwich coach Amanda Downey. “We’re looking forward to this Wednesday against Maine-Endwell. That will be a telltale sign to see if we are as good a team as we appear. If we can knock them off and possibly take second at sectionals, it would be the best finish we’ve had in years.”
Norwich won the first four events before the diving competition as Catherine Eaton, Erin Gawronski, and Kerstin Franklin backed up a win in the 200 medley relay with their own wins. Franklin and Gawronski added individual-event wins later in the meet, while Rachel Zieno and Ravyn Benedict added to the win column. Zieno picked up a victory in the 500 free, while Benedict claimed the 100 backstroke.
“They’re all swimming well for this time of year,” Downey said, who noted that the team as a collective is pulling heavy yardage in anticipation of the late-season taper. “We didn’t have personal-bests tonight, but I was not expecting that yet.”
