Barrage coming to Norwich Saturday

NORWICH – The Chenango County Council of the Arts, Norwich, announces their holiday show for 2011, Barrage in “A Winter’s Tale,” at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10 in the Martin W. Kappel Theater.

Barrage, the Explosive Violin Spectacle, seamlessly blends unique musical arrangements, lyrical vocalizations and expressive contemporary dance and choreography in a unique and exhilarating presentation of unbounded musical energy.

The new holiday performance titled “Winter’s Tale” offers up a diverse fusion of cultures, musical styles and incredible performance vitality. The music of Barrage continues to evolve – combining contemporary world music influences, layered vocal arrangements and pulsating modern beats and rhythms. In “Winter’s Tale” audiences will hear tunes of celebration that they may not have heard before as well as old favorites delivered in a unique and totally refreshing way. The cast of five violinists / vocalists, drummer, bass player and guitar player delivers the new show with amazing energy and musical virtuosity that will take your breath away.

Since its creation in Calgary, Canada in 1996, Barrage has been featured many times at events worldwide having played for many Presidents, Prime Ministers and Princes. Barrage regularly performs over 40 weeks of shows every year, performing for millions of people and has taken their show to 24 countries. Barrage has had their television productions aired on several international TV networks including the PBS network in the USA, the BBC in the UK and CBC in Canada and has released 5 CD’s including their recently released Christmas recording titled “Winter’s Tale.”

This performance is sponsored by NBT Bank. Tickets range in price from $20 to $25, with discounts for seniors and members of the CCCA. Youth 18 and under are always $10 and Family Passes are available.
