S-E Tournament
Sherburne-Earlville 48, Bainbridge-Guilford 44
Unadilla Valley 55, Hamilton 47
SHERBURNE - For the second time in three years, Sherburne-Earlville outlasted Bainbridge-Guilford for its tip-off tournament title.
S-E’s Jordan VanAlthuis had eight points in the middle two quarters as S-E (3-0) moved its lead to 37-30 after three periods. Cassie Beaver, named the tournament’s MVP, led the Marauders with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
B-G’s Shania Vandermark had nine points in the opening quarter and all six of her team’s points in the third. Outside of the first quarter, though, the Marauders did a good job of containing the Bobcats’ center. “She kind of got off to a hot start and we lost her on some screens,” said S-E coach Karen Mulligan. “We went to a zone in the second quarter, and forced her to take more outside shots. We just tried to make her uncomfortable, we got out on Randi (Conway) on the outside, and controlled everyone else.”
Vandermark led her team with 22 points and had 51 points over the two-day tournament.
In the consolation game, Jordan Anderson made six free throws in the last quarter, and Taylor Davis added five points as Unadilla Valley picked up its first win of the season beating Hamilton. Anderson scored 13 points in the win, and Davis added 12.
S-E plays at Adirondack Friday.
