CONKLIN – At powerhouse Susquehanna Valley Monday, Norwich’s varsity bowling teams failed to score a point in a pair of 5-0 shutout losses.
As expected, the Sus Valley girls eased to wins in all three games averaging a 200-pin margin of victory in each game. The boys’ side was much more competitive with NHS putting itself in position to win all three games. “We just had one or two bowlers struggle in each game, and to beat SV, you need all five to score their average or better,” said Norwich coach John McCumiskey.
The Sabers won the opening game by just seven pins. In game two, Norwich was on its way to squaring the match, but four of the Tornado’s five keglers had misses in the final frame. In the final game, each team surpassed the 1,000-pin mark, and the Sabers’ collective struck in the ninth and 10th frames respectively to hold off NHS.
Ben Barnes, leading off for Norwich, topped his club with a 686, while Darrel Humphrey came through with a 616 triple.
Norwich is at Oneonta on Wednesday.
