NORWICH – The Chenango County Grand Jury met Wednesday and handed up a number of criminal indictments. At the proceeding, the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office presents evidence against those they wish to prosecute. It is up to the jury to decide if there is enough reasonable cause to charge a person with a felony offense.

Those indicted by the grand jury are arraigned before the county or Supreme Court judge at a later date.

The grand jury indicted eight individuals:

• Austin R. Demuth, 17, Oxford, was indicted on counts of third degree criminal mischief, a class E felony, and fourth degree criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor, following an alleged incident which took place on or about Nov. 24, 2011, in the Town of Smithville Flats. Demuth is accused of breaking the driver’s side window of a 2010 Ford vehicle with a hammer at Roger’s Auto Body, 5362 State Highway 41.
