NORWICH – Blueox Energy Products had more gas left in the tank in Tuesday night’s Norwich YMCA Men’s Corporate Basketball League final.
The Energymen, sporting a deeper bench than two-time defending champion Norwich Pennysaver/Manpower, surged in the second half to capture their first league championship, 81-68.
The victory avenges Blueox’s lone defeat, a three-point setback to Pennysaver/Manpower in early February.
Blueox quickly erased a two-point halftime deficit scoring seven straight points in the first 70 seconds of the second half – two buckets coming off Pennysaver/Manpower turnovers – to take the lead for good.
Zach Williams, Amos Parry, and Brian Collier all converted layups with Collier’s a traditional three-point play giving his club a 41-36 lead.
The defending champions twice pared the deficit to one point, the latter on a Mike Genute jumper that cut the margin to 45-44. with just over 20 minutes left in the second half.
