NORWICH – Volunteers for Catholic Charities of Chenango County are ready to bake up a storm as the non-profit organization hosts another “Night of Cookies and Cream” to support for the county’s Child Advocacy Center.
The third annual Night of Cookies and Cream will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m., April 25 at St. Bartholomew’s Parish Center, 73 East Main St., Norwich.
The event is a live auction that raises money by selling cookies baked by local celebrities. In March, empty cookie jars were sent out to 40 volunteers across the county who bake two dozen cookies each. Of the two dozen baked by each volunteer, 12 cookies go in their cookie jar and the remaining 12 are left to be rated by a pannel of eight judges. The judges vote on the top ten best cookies and those ten are then auctioned off with their cookie jar throughout the evening.
Prizes will be awarded for the best cookie, most creative cookie jar, and the baker whose cookie raises the most money.
In previous years, the fundraiser has been a huge success for the Children’s Center in Norwich, said this year’s event coordinator Sharon Wilson. Last year, the cookie auction brought in more than $2,000 for the charity. However, after the closing of the Children’s Center last July, organizers decided it best this year to focus on gaining support for the Child Advocacy Center, located on Silver Street.
