NORWICH – The Chenango Health Network team for the Susan G. Komen Cental New York Race for the Cure will be traveling to Syracuse once again this year to take part in the nationally recognized fundraising event for breast cancer awareness, education and research.
The walk and run event will take place Saturday, May 19, at the New York State Fairgrounds and Expo Center in Syracuse. The Komen Race for the Cure is the largest series of 5K runs and fitness walks in the world and raises enormous amounts of money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer while also recognizing those who have lost their battle to the disease.
More than 1 million people are expected to take part in this year’s race. For several weeks, supporters across Chenango County have been paying the $25 fee to join the CHN team while other supporters have offered donations, along with words of praise and encouragement for those struggling with the ailments of breast cancer.
“The race is always a very powerful experience,” said Lori Kemmerer, cancer outreach specialist at CHN. “We have a team that goes every year and it’s always a great experience for all of us.”
