Norwich 8, Oxford 3

NORWICH – Norwich won its third and fourth straight games Friday and Saturday defeating Oxford and Chenango Forks at home.

The Tornado received a pair of complete-game pitching performances with Justin Lindenthaler taming the Blackhawks on Friday for his first win this season, while sophomore Cody Barnes overcame a rocky opening two innings for his first varsity win.

Colby Griffin had a two-run double in the third inning against Oxford to help erase a 2-1 deficit. The Blackhawks had forged ahead behind a two-run double from Andrew Golden in the top half of the same inning.

Brendan McInerney led NHS with a 3-for-4 day, Grady Thompson had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored, while Griffin and Cody Barnes each had 2-for-3 days.

Less than 24 hours later, Barnes gave up all five runs over the first two innings, but was supported by a potent Tornado offense that tagged Forks pitching for 10 runs over those same two innings.

Thompson stroked a three-run double in Norwich’s six-run second inning, and Ben Barnes ripped an RBI triple in the third.

Cody Barnes finished the game with five shutout frames and had nine strikeouts. Ben Barnes, Griffin, and Lindenthaler all had two hits, while Josh Haines and Cody Barnes drove in one run apiece.

Norwich (5-1) hosts Johnson City today.
