OXFORD – The Oxford Academy and Central School District Board of Education presented the 2012-13 budget at a hearing Thursday. The budget vote will take place on May 15 in the high school auditorium.

The proposed budget total is $16,849,098 in expenditures. According to the board, this is $86,568 less than the 2011-12 budget. The spending plan represents a 2 percent tax levy increase.

Joe Guginom, Oxford’s business administrator, explained that the gap elimination number was $244,495 less than the previous year. The gap elimination number is the amount of money retracted from state aid by the governor’s office each year. The budget will see $11,576,271 in state aid for the 2012-13 budget year.

Due to a decrease in enrollment, interim Superintendent Sylvia Root announced that three full-time staff would be eliminated in 2012-13. Enrollment is estimated to decrease from 812 to 781 next year, she said, primarily in grades one and two.
