NORTH NORWICH – With numerous elections on the horizon, the Chenango County Republican Committee is preparing for the 37th Lobster Fest fundraiser.

The event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. July 22 at the Canasawacta Country Club.

Billed as the most “non-political” political event of the year, Lobster Fest brings dozens of politicians from every level of government in New York State and draws 500-1,200 attendees.

“It’s a presidential election year, so we’re anticipating quite the turnout,” said Committee Chairman Tom Morrone.

The event, which was started in the mid-70’s by Clarence “Rapp” Rappleyea as a social gathering, has grown to be the sole fundraiser for the Republican Committee. People from across Chenango County and beyond are drawn to the event each year by the lure of hundreds of lobsters, supplied by Price Chopper, and the chance to mingle with local and state politicians.

This year’s guest list will include Congressman Richard Hanna, running for re-election in New York’s recently redrawn 22nd Congressional District; Assemblyman Peter Lopez, running for re-election in the newly formed 102nd Assembly District; Assemblyman Clifford Crouch; Assemblyman Gary Finch; and State Senators Thomas Libous and James L. Seward.
