Famed Celtic singer Mary Fahl appears at 6 On The Square

OXFORD – Saturday, at 7:30 p.m., 6 On The Square (6OTS) is honored to present, singer-songwriter-recording artist, Mary Fahl from October Project. The multi-faceted Fahl is blessed with a magnificent range and has created a highly successful solo career with her very unique, expressive style of Celtic-folk-pop music that will take you to another realm.

First achieving fame as lead singer and co-founder of the cult band October Project in the mid-1990s, Mary Fahl recorded two albums for Epic: it’s self-titled debut album in 1993; and “Falling Farther In,” two years later. In a review of October Project’s first release, Allmusic.com dubbed Fahl the “lovechild” of Stevie Nicks and Peter Steel and “a completely unique artist, sounding like no other vocalist of her era.”

Following her days with October Project, Fahl’s blossoming solo career included several notable collaborations, including Broadway composer Stephen Schwartz (Wicked) and Academy Award nominated lyricist, Ramsey McLean (Sleepless in Seattle). In an interview with (the recently retired) Liane Hansen of NPR’s “Weekend Edition Sunday,” Mary explained that cinema and film scores have had a profound influence on her music, envisioning each song she writes as “a tiny universe unto itself.”
