AFTON – Despite loss of the midway for 2012, the Afton Fair is alive and well. The Fair Board and volunteers are working hard to bring four days of family fun and information to the community, July 12-15.
The schedule is continually adding new opportunities, activities and entertainment. So be sure to check the Afton Fair web page, theaftonfair.com, for the latest updates.
The themes for the Fair are Thursday - “Racing to Work,” Friday – “Education Day,” Saturday – “Health Day,” and Sunday is “Artisan Day.”
Your favorites will be at the fair again this year, Children’s Activity Center, Floral Hall, Harness Racing, Small Animal Exhibit, Youth Dairy Show, Open English & Western Horse Show, Miniature & Driving Horse Show, I-88 Speedway Race, and Fireworks.
Watch for the Hot Air Balloons – with a Glow on Friday, Afton Fair Cruise In, Antique Race Cars, Miss Afton Fair, Doodlebug Club, Kiddy Tractor Pull, Afton Fair Baby Contest, Gary Jennings on stage, Shawn Hawkins & Tessa Dzuba on stage, Community Parade, T.O.Y.S. tractor pull, Pink Faith of Chenango and Broome County Walk for the Cure, Gentle Giants (Draft Horses) and the Garden Tractor Pull.
This year will include over 100 school art exhibits along with exhibits of professional artists and artisans. Numerous businesses and agency will also have exhibits in the fair buildings.
Gates will open 9 am with general admission $3 per car, $1 per person walking through gate. On Friday, at 3pm, the general admission changes to the donation of non-perishable food item or $3 per car, $1 per person walking through gate. The food will support the local food pantry.
