GIRLS’ SOCCER
Greene 6, Walton 1
GREENE - Greene junior Paige Wilcox established a new Greene scoring record netting an incredible six goals in Tuesday’s one-sided victory over Walton.
Wilcox’s fifth goal of the game gave her 71 for her career to break the career mark of Amber Pratt, who had 70 goals over a four-year varsity career. “Paige just has tremendous foot skills and she works so hard in the offseason at getting better,” said Greene coach Brandy Stone. “The teams in the league know she is an offensive threat, but it’s very hard to stop her when she is on top of her game.”
All six of Wilcox’s goals were unassisted, and her record-breaking tally came just 2:55 into the second half. An added twist to the record – and Greene’s victory – is that the Trojans won the game with just 10 players – one less than the 11 allowed on the field.
“We had four kids out today for various reasons, and we had to adjust the lineup,” Stone said. “When you have to play 80 minutes non-stop, you’ll get tired, but I was impressed with our effort and communication today.”
Greene returns to the field Thursday when it hosts Susquehanna Valley in the first round of the Trojans’ tournament.
