Cincinnatus 4, Sherburne-Earlville 0
HAMILTON – Sherburne-Earlville suffered its first loss of the season losing to Cincinnatus in the finals of the Hamilton Optimist Tournament Saturday.
The schedule was moved up from an evening start to 10 a.m. in order to avoid the forecasted thundershowers. As a result, three S-E players, including leading scorer Carter Cole, were unable to attend. S-E head coach Mike Rodriguez said the three players were taking the ACT college entrance exams. “Even with all of our players, straight up, I still think Cincinnatus would have had the slight advantage,” Rodriguez said. “Cincinnatus has a very good team.”
Caleb Eaton scored a pair of goals for the Red Lions, who took a 2-0 lead into halftime. The Marauders struggled in the midfield and some nagging injuries. “It was a tough test, and we were juggling things around,” Rodriguez said. “We’re looking to get healthy quick.”
The Marauders’ Jake Irwin and Elijah Morris were named to the all-tournament team, while goalie Sam Caton was named the defensive MVP.
S-E (3-1-1) travels to Adirondack today.
