LINCKLAEN – Federal environmental authorities say a $10 million decontamination project is set to begin this month at a former industrial site on Lincklaen Union Valley Road in the Town of Lincklaen.

The Environmental Protection Agency said the work will remove soil containing volatile organic compounds and PCBs from the former Solvent Saver Inc. The company took in industrial solvents and other material between 1967 and 1974 from American Locker Group, Bristol-Myers Squibb, General Electric, International Business Machines, Pass and Seymour and the U.S. Air Force, which are responsible for designing and paying for the cleanup.

The project is expected to take about a year. The EPA will host a public information meeting at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28 at the town hall, also on Lincklaen Union Valley Road. Lincklaen, population 396, is located about 30 miles northwest of the county’s seat in Norwich.
