Sherburne-Earlville 2, Adirondack 1
SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville’s season took a step forward Wednesday as the Marauders won their Section III Class C playoff opener against Adirondack.
S-E scored both of its goals in the opening half. Dan Galvez received a miscleared ball from Adirondack, and tucked away his shot 17 minutes into the game. Sixteen minutes later, S-E was awarded an indirect kick inside the Adirondack 18-yard box, and Nathan Piazza scored his first goal of the season tallying off a Carter Cole pass.
Adirondack closed the gap 10 minutes into the second half, and after an injury sidelined S-E starting midfielder Elijah Morris the rest of the way, Adirondack created some dicey moments for the Marauders faithful. “We kind of went into a defensive shell the latter part of the second half, and our defense held pretty well,” said Sherburne-Earlville coach Mike Rodriguez. “Up until Elijah’s injury, I thought we had control of the game. We were able to string together a lot of nice passes and maintain possession.”
The Marauders will play at second-seeded Cazenovia Friday.
