New York State Commander visits Chenango County

CHENANGO COUNTY – The Chenango County American Legion will host a joint visitation next Thursday by 2012-2013 NYS Department Commander Timothy S. Van Patten and Auxiliary (ALA) President Sally Johnston. Traveling with them will be Detachment Commander John J. Knapp Sr. state Sons of The American Legion (SAL) Commander.

They will be starting the annual visitation of Chenango County in Oxford at the NYS Veterans’ Home and ending it with dinner at the AL Post #376 Fort Hill on Thursday, Nov. 15. The Commanders and President visit the 62 New York State counties once-a-year. During the official visitation tour, they discuss issues facing veterans and supporting members, listen to their needs and concerns, and fund raise for their particular annual projects.

During the visitation, Tim Van Patten, Sally Johnston, and John Knapp Sr. will tour the NYS Veterans’ Home; enjoy a formal luncheon and a special award presentation. After, the motorcade will travel to see the Village of Greene’s Memorial Park. Commander Earl Howell of Greene’s Lloyd O. Jackson Post #692 will be on site to describe the monuments of all wars up to the Vietnam War, and the specially engraved memorial pavers. Dignitaries and guests will then visit and tour the nearby Raymond Corporation at 2 p.m. At 6 p.m. an honorary dinner will be held at Fort Hill Post #376, at 17 South Washington Avenue, Oxford.
