CICERO – Greene’s players left the Cicero-North Syracuse field with tears for the third straight season. Only these streaming rivulets were conceived of joy.

The Trojans’ field hockey team matched its most lopsided win of a 19-0 unbeaten season in the most unliekly of settings – the Class C state championship game – blowing out Section XI’s Southhampton, 7-0 Sunday morning. It was the program’s seventh state championship and second in four seasons. The victory also erases the memory of back-to-back state playoff losses on this same field in 2010 and 2011.

“It feels like I’ve accomplished everything I’ve ever worked for,” said Greene senior Emma Anderson, who had three goals and one assist in the title clash. “We’ve all been together since the first grade playing sports. Everything we’ve done has prepared us for this moment.”

Anderson was one of four seniors who played on the 2009 state title team, and it’s no surprise that those four – Anderson, Jahna Driscoll, Emily Conroe, and Colleen Dietrich – accounted for four goals and five assists in their final game in a Trojans field hockey uniform.

Conroe had one goal and two assists, while senior Jahna Driscoll, the school’s leading scorer this season, had three assists. Speedy right wing Emily Gascon scored twice, and reserve left wing Paige Castle added a tally.
