SHERBURNE – Bainbridge-Guilford strategically maneuvered its lineup to create favorable matchups, and maximized its seven victories with six pins and a forfeit to edge the Marauders in a non-league dual meet Wednesday night.
Jamie Griswold and Justin Cirigliano, finalists at the Clyde Cole Tournament last weekend at 132 and 138 pounds respectively, each jumped two weight classes, and came away with pinfall wins. Griswold stuck Ryan Wilcox at 145 pounds in 1:59, while Cirigliano took a little longer pinning Brady Sopchak in 2:25.
“We had some great matches, and I thought we had a chance after the Meade (Brian) match,” said S-E head coach Bim Palmer. “But you never know what’s up Brandon’s (MacNaught, B-GA coach) sleeve.”
Meade had a spectacular comeback victory at 138 pounds. Fighting off his back in the first and second period, he trailed the Bears’ Tim Parsons 7-2, and was on the verge of getting pinned. Meade, still a relative newcomer to the sport, reversed his precarious position to garner the improbable pin at 3:17. “The one thing about Brian is that he never gives up,” Palmer said. “The B-GA kid kind of loosened his hold, and Brian took advantage.”
