FENTON - In a battle of state-ranked unbeatens, Norwich won a rematch of last year’s Section IV Class B final dominating the second half to pull away for the win.

Grant Brightman scored a career-high 15 points off the bench, and Kyle Edwards scored 12 to go with seven rebounds. Michael Sutton added 10 assists, and the Tornado finished with 18 assists and a season-low eight turnovers.

“It was really good for us to go into a hostile environment against a good team and get the win,” said Norwich coach Tom Collier. “But we’re not going to make more of the win that that. We came into the game well prepared, and our kids were confident. It showed on the court tonight.”

Norwich stretched a two-point halftime lead to 45-34 at the end of the third, and a Brightman basket with under two minutes to play had Norwich up by 20.

Edwards was equally effective on the defensive side of the ball checking CV’s high-scoring forward, Zack Collins. Collins was limited to 11 points on three three-pointers. “Collins is one of the best players in our league taking the ball to the rim, and to hold him without a two-point field goal, that was just a tremendous defensive effort by Kyle,” Collier said. “We had great defense from our entire team tonight, but it all started with Kyle.”
