NORWICH – A Norwich woman died after being ejected from her car near County Road 32A (Dan Main Hill Road) and its intersection with County Road 32 (East River Road) in the Town of Norwich Thursday morning.

Casey Rae Decker, 31, was pronounced dead on the scene following yesterday’s accident, which was first reported at approximately 7:40 a.m. Both icy road conditions and speed contributed to the crash, according to the New York State Police, and it’s believed Decker was ejected from her Toyota FJ Cruiser when it careened off the road, rolling several times.

The one-car crash shut down traffic along County Road 32 between its intersection with County Road 33 (Polkville Hill) and the Halfway House bridge for several hours. The New York State Police were assisted by the Norwich Fire Department on the scene.

Family and friends took to Facebook in remembrance of Decker throughout the day following her death, posting dozens of images as well as their own personal memories of the young woman. Said one friend, “It breaks my heart knowing I won’t ever see your smile again,” while another stated, “Casey, you will be missed. My prayers are with the family at this time.”

A member of the Decker family said they believed Casey was on her way to the store before going to work at the time of the accident.

Jessica Steward, a close friend of Decker’s, called her “one of the most caring people I know,” adding, “I am going to miss your smile ... you will live forever in my heart and soul.”
