Norwich 41, Susquehanna Valley 28
NORWICH – Norwich’s suffocating defensive pressure kept Susquehanna Valley’s offense out of rhythm Friday night as the Purple Tornado won their fourth straight game.
Breanna Cashman had 10 points, 13 rebounds, three blocked shots, and four assists in a stat-stuffing performance. Jennifer Borfitz added 10 points as well, and Cassie Sutton scored eight.
Norwich was able to stretch its six-point halftime lead to 13 points in the third quarter. Borfiz and Sutton completed layups, and Borfitz added two free throws with 4:36 left in the quarter to make it 28-15. Cashman figured in two final-minute buckets driving and dishing to Taylor Cook for a layup, then putting back an offensive rebound with four seconds left in the period to again raise the lead to 13.
The Sabers had just 12 field goals for the game and shot less than 30 percent from the field while also committing 20 turnovers against NHS. “We definitely executed well on defense, and we rebounded much better in the second half,” said Norwich coach Josh Bennett. “We have to shore things up on the offensive side, especially limiting turnovers, and get better shots.”
Norwich’s JV team won its seventh straight game improving to 7-1 overall with a 45-34 victory over SV. Meghan Komendarek led with 14 points and Savannah Williams had 11.
