NORWICH – Four individuals charged with various misdemeanor and felony crimes appeared in Chenango County court Friday, including a Town of Norwich man charged with multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon and felony possession of marijuana.
Those who appeared in court include:
• Henry W. Hemsley, 73, Norwich, made his first appearance Friday and was subsequently released on his own recognizance in order to obtain the services of an attorney. Bail in Hemsley’s case was originally set at $2,500 cash and was posted shortly after his arrest in September.
Indicted by a Chenango County grand jury in December, Hemsley faces charges of second degree criminal possession of marijuana, a class D felony; six counts of third degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony; and seven counts of fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class A misdemeanor.
In September, Hemsley was allegedly found to be in possession of 45 marijuana plants – more than 16 ounces all told – as well as a number of fully automatic machine guns, including two, 7.62 caliber AK47s and three, 5.56 caliber Colt M16s. Seven other semi-automatic hand guns and revolvers belonging to Hemsley were also discovered, according to the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office.
