The knives are out for donations to charities.
Now wait a minute, Tom. Nobody wants to hurt our charities, do they?
Yes, they do. There are people who would be happy to gut our charities. And they are lobbying for this with our politicians. The politicians are caving in. By recommending that tax deductions for contributions to charities be cut.
The big charities are begging the politicians to leave the deductions alone. Because if deductions are cut, people will give them less money.
Now, who on earth would want to hurt these charities? Guys on the far left would. They camouflage their wishes within today’s fashionable mantra: “The rich don’t pay their fair share. To make them pay more in taxes, get rid of some of the deductions for giving money to charities. Don’t let them get tax deductions for setting up their fancy foundations.”
You know about the Ford Foundation. And the Rockefeller Foundation. Maybe you know Warren Buffett is giving most of his billions to Bill Gates’s charitable foundation to create a super-foundation. You may recall Ted Turner was giving a billion bucks to the UN from his foundation. You read about any number of gifts from any number of American foundations. To any number of charities and schools and causes.
