NEW BERLIN – Oxford made up a 10-point deficit in the final three minutes, and Andrew Golden’s put-back basket with 6.5 seconds left lifted the Blackhawks to a one-point victory Friday night.

Golden rebounded Cameron Heggie’s missed three-pointer from the right corner, missed on his initial put-back, but immediately knocked down his follow-up attempt. UV had a chance to win with 0.7 seconds left. Inbounding the ball under its basket, Justin Hofer caught the pass and shot in one motion. The game-winning attempt just caromed off the rim. “We made some poor decisions with the ball in the last three minutes,” said UV coach Matt Osborne. “We needed to use some clock, but we came down and shot it too quickly, and many of the shots were not good ones.”

UV grabbed a 46-36 lead after back-to-back baskets from Jared Hanslmaier.

Golden started the comeback draining a three, Matt Moore added a spot-up three, and Moore converted a layup off a steal and pass from Paul Wonka tying the game at 46-46.

Hofer gave UV its final lead making one of two free throws with 1:19 remaining.

Golden finished with 31 points in the victory. “He’s a tough matchup and can score inside and outside,” Osborne said of Golden. “We really don’t have anyone who can match up with him.”

Nate Shackleton scored 10 points to lead UV, who had a three-game winning streak snapped.
