NORWICH – The Chenango County grand jury met last Wednesday and handed up a number of criminal indictments. At the proceeding, the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office presents evidence against those they wish to prosecute. It is up to the jury to decide if there is enough reasonable cause to charge a person with a felony offense.
Those indicted by the grand jury are arraigned before the county or Supreme Court judge at a later date.
The grand jury indicted 12 individuals last week:
• Corey A. Burns, 24, and Zachariah M. Burns, 27, both of Greene, were indicted on charges of fourth degree grand larceny, a class E felony, and petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.
It’s alleged that both Corey and Zachariah Burns, on or about Dec. 18 in the Town of Norwich, stole a pair of big screen television sets from the Wal-Mart Supercenter, 5396 State Highway 12.
Corey Burns was arraigned in county court Friday and pleaded not guilty to all charges.
• Andrew S. Button, 28, Mt. Upton, was indicted on charges of first degree sexual abuse, a class D violent felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.
It’s alleged that Button, who was arrested on or about Dec. 26, had unlawful sexual contact with a child under the age of seven years old.
