Oneonta 70, Norwich 37
NORWICH – Oneonta rolled past Norwich Friday with stupendous outside shooting on the Purple Tornado’s home floor.
OHS guard Minnie Webster set the tone early hitting four three-pointers on her first four attempts staking the Yellowjackets to a 15-8 lead.
After the Tornado’s Breanna Cashman made a basket early in the second quarter to close the deficit to 15-10, Oneonta finished the quarter on a 22-1 run. Mariah Ruff scored nine of her team-high 18 points during the quarter, and Sierra Sangetti-Daniels had seven of her 14. For the game, Oneonta made nine three-pointers on just 15 attempts.
“I don’t care if you’re playing fifth-graders, nine three-pointers is an awful lot,” said Norwich coach Josh Bennett. “They definitely shot it extremely well.”
Norwich also struggled with turnovers – and shooting – finishing with 26 miscues, while hitting just 12 of 41 shot attempts (29 percent). “I know we didn’t score that much or play that well, but when we did get looks, it seemed like there was a lid on the basket most of the second and third quarters,” Bennett said.
Cashman had 10 points and nine rebounds to lead Norwich.
