SHERBURNE - Just three baby!

The Marauders drilled nine three-pointers Friday, seven from freshman sniper Savannah Irwin in a first-round Section III playoff win Friday.

Ahead by just one after a single period, an Irwin three started a 12-5 spurt to end the first half. Jordan Van Althuis nailed a three, and chased that with a layup lifting the S-E margin to 30-19 by halftime.

The Marauders' superior firepower offset a somewhat shaky night of intermittent turnovers along with allowing a few more offensive rebounds to Fulton than head coach Karen Mulligan would have liked. "We didnt do a very good job of defensively rebounding," Mulligan said. "But it was a game of runs, and fortunately we had enought spurts to take control."

Irwin had a game-high 23 points, and her 48 threes this season are an S-E freshman record. Fellow freshman Lilly Berg had 14 points and seven rebounds, and Van Althuis dished out nine assists to go with her seven points. S-E plays the winner of Cazenovia and Bishop Ludden on Tuesday.
