Chenango celebrates maple traditions Sunday

NORWICH – Saluting the longstanding history of maple production in the area, the Chenango County Historical Society is keeping on a tradition that pays tribute to the industry with the third annual Maple Sunday, set to take place from noon to 4 p.m. this weekend on the grounds of the museum on Rexford Street in Norwich.

The free, yearly event is a grand way to usher in the spring season by recognizing the contributions Chenango County has made to the maple production over the course of a century, as well as the innovative processes that have changed the face of the industry. From old methods of capturing tree sap through wooden tools and metal buckets, to the modern-day tubing system that makes maple production more efficient, the Historical Society will demonstrate the techniques that have made maple production a lucrative business in Chenango County.

“This is actually my favorite event of the year,” said CCHS Director and Curator Meghan Molloy. “It’s definitely a kid-friendly event with lots of things to do and lots of maple products to eat. We had a great turnout last year and we are hoping to be just as successful with it this year.”
