GREENE – Last month, the third annual “Pub Goes Red” fundraiser generated $4,404 in donations to be used in the fight against heart disease and stroke.
The event, hosted by Team Wayne and Irene, was held at Nathanael Greene’s Publick House. It far surpassed last year’s fundraiser, which raised $1,004. Team Wayne and Irene is comprised of family members and close friends of Irene Tornillo and Wayne Chapman, both of who passed away due to heart-related illnesses.
This year’s event featured entertainment from Tom Adams and Friends, had over 60 raffle baskets donated by local businesses, a 50/50 raffle, and plenty of door prizes. A total 176 individuals participated and the second floor of the pub had to be opened up to accommodate the large turnout.
“I think it was a successful event. We did well over what we did last year,” said organizer Patty Washburn, refering to both the high number of participants and donations. “In fact, we might have to find a bigger venue for next year.”
