NORWICH – The Chenango County grand jury convened Wednesday and handed up a number of criminal indictments. During the proceeding, the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office presents evidence against those they wish to prosecute. It is up to the jury to decide if there is enough reasonable cause to charge a person with a felony offense.
Those indicted by the grand jury are arraigned before the county or Supreme Court judge at a later date.
The grand jury indicted seven individuals:
• Jody L. Spencer, 48, Milford, was indicted on two counts each of fourth degree grand larceny, a class E felony; and petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.
Spencer is accused of stealing property from a Norwich business valued at $1,000 or greater on two separate occasions, the first on or about Feb. 27, 2013, the second occurring on or about March 3, 2013.
• Roderic R. Williams, 45, Syracuse, was indicted on one count of aggravated driving while intoxicated, a class D felony; one count of driving while intoxicated, a class D felony; and one count of first degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a class E felony.
Williams is accused of driving an automobile without a valid license and under the influence of alcohol, allegedly registering a blood alcohol content of .23 of 1 percent in the Village of Oxford.
