SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville High School Drama Club will present playwright Carolyn Francke’s comedy, “Father of the Bride,” at 7 p.m. both Friday and Saturday in the high school auditorium.
The production’s protagonist, Mr. Banks (Matt Smith) – and as the play progresses the of father of the bride – is caught off guard when his daughter Kay (played by Maisy French) announces, without preamble, she is tying the knot. Banks doesn’t take the news all too well and is less than pleased when he comes to understand the recipient of his daughter’s affections is a young man (Buckley Dunstan, portrayed by Jacob Taylor) who Mr. Banks has noticed occasioning his home. On the other hand, Mrs. Banks (Zoe Enscoe) and their sons (Mick Khoury and Dmitri Sofranko) are excited for the event. The comedy unfolds as Banks struggles with the concept of losing his little girl.
“I read a lot of plays searching for one which is both appropriate,” said director Colleen Law-Tefft, who since 1998 has put on some 28 plays at S-E. “For the spring show, I always try to feature the seniors more because it is their last one.”
Law-Tefft chose Father of the Bride, which she described as a gentle comedy, because she desired to put on something light-hearted.
