OXFORD – On the 150th anniversary of the infamous Battle of Gettysburg, a group of Oxford history enthusiasts will venture forth for a four-day tour of Civil War battlefields and sites.
Major highlights of the tour will focus on the 114th Regiment, NY Infantry; and the 10th Regiment, NY Calvary (two regiments which featured Chenango County citizens). The tour will leave August 5 and return August 8 – exactly 150 years after Robert E. Lee tendered his resignation to Confederate President Jefferson Davis following the North’s victory at Gettysburg.
“We have a pretty extensive itinerary planned,” said tour organizer Darla Race of White Star Tours.
Race has organized similar sorts of enterprises for five years now. She was approached by members of the Oxford Civil War group, which meets every month, and asked to organize the tour.
