We've got a lot going on, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol is still plenty busy dealing with a hot summer and more movies than you can shake a stick at. The Toddster has busy catching up on some shows from the beginning of the year, checking out DVDs and reviewing movies in the theater just to name a few things going on. There might also be a team-up coming our way. Here are a few movies to check out.
New on DVD
42 - There are certain people in the world who have had to fight for everything they want in life. For baseball player Jackie Robinson (Chadwick Boseman), that couldn't be more true. All he wanted to do was play his favorite game in the world but there were many who were determined to make sure that wouldn't happen. Branch Rickey (Harrison Ford) knew he was taking a chance signing a black ballplayer and in 1947 it wasn't something that was done. Rickey saw something special in him and he knew Jackie would have to go through a lot to play in a sport dominated by white players. Jackie did just that and thrive he did by proving that to the fans and the rest of baseball. See this amazing movie about how the human spirit can give anyone the will to do what has to be done when you put your mind to it. Ford has a new movie being released in the fall called "Ender's Game," set for release in November.
Bullet To The Head - It's never fun when you have two people who have the same job and have a couple of different ways of getting the job done. From the team that brought you "Smallville." Jimmy Bobo (Sylvester Stallone) was a hitman and had a great partner. They both did their jobs and were paid well for it. Taylor Kwan (Sung Kang) was a great cop and had partner like no one else. Jimmy and Taylor's paths are about to collide when their partners are killed by the same mobster. They are going to have to find a way to work together. Can they do it without killing each other? Stallone is getting ready to start filming "The Expendables 3" and stars with Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Escape Plan" hitting theaters in October.

Unforgettable - Having the most incredible memory can either hurt you or help you. Season 1 is here and comes to stores for the first time. Detective Carrie Wells (Poppy Montgomery) was a great cop with an even better memory who has the rare ability to remember every detail she is exposed to every day. She is also haunted by the memory of her sister being killed and wasn't able to stop it. She became a cop but when a case went bad, she left the force. Now she is being asked to return because the police have a case they think only she might be able to help solve. Can Carrie handle returning or will she be haunted by too many demons from her past? Montgomery returns with Season 2 on July 28 airing at 9 p.m. on CBS.

Pacific Rim - What do you do when your home and very way of life are threatened? It's a pretty good bet that there are those that will fight back. It seems the Earth us being invaded by giant creatures known as "Kaijus" and the only way to stop these giant monsters is with a brand new weapon called "Jaegers." Jaegers are massive robots that are piloted by two pilots who are linked by a neural connection. The robots seemed to be making a difference. Raleigh Beckett (Charlie Hunnam) and his brother were considered the best and during their last battle they were beaten with Raleigh's brother being killed. Now, five years later, Raleigh is no longer a pilot and the Jaeger program is almost gone. Marshall Pentecost (Idris Elba) come back to get Raleigh for a last ditch effort because they think they have a way to stop the Kaijus once and for all. After Raleigh returns, he meets a new cadet named Mako (Rinko Kikuchi) who has something to prove. Can these two work and use the new plan to save the Earth once and for all?
The Toddster's Take - I always like to watch a good fight and a lot of action. The story seemed a bit slow at times and could use a little more detail to move things along. Hunnan and Kikuchi's chemistry was very good and the special effect were incredible. They are already talking about a sequel which I don't see happening, but anything is possible. Not a movie for the little ones. If you're an action person, see it.
I have it on good authority that my team is back with an all new team-up idea and my editor has a surprise for me. We'll see what it is. More reviews coming up and the summer’s not done yet. The Toddster will see you next time.
