G-MU 1, Bainbridge-Guilford 0 (Finals)
Unadilla Valley 4, Walton 3 (Consolation finals)
NEW BERLIN - G-MU recorded a pair of shutout victories, the latter win over B-G in the championship game of the New York Pizzeria Tournament Saturday at Unadilla Valley High School.
After a scoreless first half and nearly a scoreless second half with the Bobcats, G-MU broke the ice with 3:20 left in regulation. Tournament MVP Makenzie Talbot beat a B-G defender to the right corner, and hit a crossing pass to Autumn Butler, who tapped it into the net. Following the go-ahead goal, the Raiders’ defense clamped down to not allow B-G a shot the rest of the way.
“These girls played with so much heart and everyone on the field did their part and so much more,” said G-MU coach Tina Cole. “It was a great win for them.”
Unadilla Valley rebounded from a first-round loss to Bainbridge-Guilford to beat Walton 4-3 in the consolation game. With the contest tied and headed toward overtime, Taylor Davis scored with 10 seconds left off a cross from Hunter Lakin.
Davis had two goals in the game, while Lakin and Sierra Badger added goals.
Friday, Tayler Nichols had two first-half goals for the Raiders to fuel the offensive attack, and Talbot added an insurance goal in the second half in a 3-0 victory over Walton. Talbot and Elaina Palada were also credited with assists.
