Grand Jury Indicts More Than 20 In November

NORWICH – The Chenango County grand jury handed up a number of criminal indictments Wednesday Nov. 20 and Thursday Nov. 21. At a grand jury proceeding, the Chenango County District Attorney's presents evidence against those they desire to prosecute. The jury decides, based upon the evidence, if there is enough reasonable cause to charge the individual with a felony offense.

If indicted by the grand jury, the individual will be arraigned before the county court judge at a later date.

The grand jury indicted a total of 22 men and women.

• Mark Crawford, 46, Guilford, was indicted on charges of aggravated sexual abuse in the second degree, a class C felony; and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.

The indictment alleges that Crawford, on or about Oct. 27, 2013 in the Town of Guilford, did sexually abuse a child under the age of three years old and did cause physical injury to the child.

• Nicholas S. Barrows 27, McDonough, was indicted on charges of sexual abuse in the first degree, a class D felony; and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.

Allegedly, Barrows subjected another person - under the age of 11 - to sexual contact in May of 2010.
