NORWICH – Shane M. Manwarren, 32, McDonough, was originally charged with two counts of harassment in the second degree, resisting arrest, the felony of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, the misdemeanor of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, tampering with physical evidence and criminal mischief in the third degree. He appeared in county court Dec. 20.

In March, the Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested Manwarren after he allegedly shoved a police officer, resisted arrest and damaged a patrol vehicle. When he was chased on foot by officers, he attempted to dispose of evidence including an undisclosed amount of heroin, prescription medication and a hypodermic needle.

The evidence was later recovered by authorities, along with more heroin found on Manwarren. According to authorities, Manwarren had 15 glassine envelopes of heroin in his possession with the intent to sell it. He was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility, and he has been incarcerated there since.

Manwarren is a predicate felon, charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in August of 2008. He was given a three year state prison sentence and received drug and alcohol treatment in February of 2013, before being arrested again in March.
