NORWICH – The Norwich High School Varsity Cheerleaders have challenged the NHS boys and girls varsity and junior varsity basketball teams to play in the Fourth Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Games at the NHS Jack Jones Gymnasium.

The girls varsity and junior varsity teams will be opposing Seton Catholic on Tuesday, Jan. 14, and the boys varsity and junior varsity teams will be opposing Johnson City on Friday, Jan. 17. The junior varsity games will start at 6 p.m. and the varsity games will start at 7:45 pm.

The Norwich, Seton Catholic and Johnson City coaching staff members will make an unusual fashion statement at this week’s games by wearing sneakers while coaching on the sidelines. They are joining thousands of other basketball coaches nationwide, who will be wearing their sneakers to raise awareness about cancer and the American Cancer Society’s effort to save lives.

The Coaches vs. Cancer program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer.

Since its inception in 1993, high school and college coaches and their families across the country have raised nearly $87 million for the American Cancer Society.

The NHS Varsity Cheerleaders have spearheaded this event for the past four years. The girls continue to reach out to their community to help raise awareness for the American Cancer Society’s cause.
