NORWICH – Tha annual Coaches vs. Cancer games at the Norwich High School last week prompted new heights in cancer awareness and helped the Norwich cheerleading squad raise hundreds of dollars to help with the cause.

According to NHS Head Cheerleading Coach Marie DeSarro, the games – hosted by the NHS cheerleading squad on Jan. 14 and again on Jan. 17 – were a huge success, raising a total $433 to go toward the NHS cheerleaders’ Relay for Life team.

Both games featured basketball coaching staffs from Norwich, Seton Catholic and Johnson City wearing sneakers with their dress-attire to promote cancer awareness. Many of the basketball players also wore different colored socks and shoelaces to honor a certain type of cancer. In addition, NHS cheerleaders ran a bake sale and collected donations during both games.

Further support was provided by members of the NHS Girls’ Basketball Boosters, who donated proceeds from their 50/50 raffle; and from Margaret Newell, who donated her winnings back to the raffle.
