New on DVD
Frozen- Disney is just great as ever and they have a brave new tale right here. Anna always looked at the World in a very good way and always seeing some way to make bad things good. Her sister Elsa had a different way of looking at things and she has decided to engulf the World in Eternal Winter. Anna thinks she can find a way to change her sister's way of thinking so she goes on a trip to find her. Along the way, she meets Kristoff and a funny snowman named Olaf who is always going to pieces at some point. Will Anna and her friends be successful? Another magical Disney movie just out stars Tom Hanks playing the Walt Disney himself in "Saving Mr. Banks" which tells the true story of how Mary Poppins was made into a movie.
The Wolf of Wall Street- There are just some people who make things that are usually hard look really easy. Based on the best selling book, Leonardo Dicaprio and Martin Scorese join forces to make an interesting film about a man who made money. Dicaprio plays Jordan Balfort. Jordan was a stockbroker who had a talent for making money. He helped his friends including his friend Donnie (Jonah Hill). They made everything look easy. When you're in top, they are those who want to find a way to bring you down. Jordan gets the attention of the Government and they want to find a way to bring him down. what will happen to Jordan next? Another Oscar nominated movie on DVD is "Ameican Hustle" with Jennifer Lawrence, Christian Bale, and Bradley Cooper in a caper movie similar to this one that's available in stores now.
Now in Theaters
Need For Speed- The life of a racer is never an easy one. Tobey Marshall (Aaron Paul) was one of the best street racers anyone had ever seen and was one of the best mechanics as well. An old rival named Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper) comes to him to complete an Ford Mustang that was never completed. Tobey puts his special touch on it and Dino takes it to a show where a buyer is anxious to buy it. The buyer's representative Julie (Imogen Poots) is impressed with Tobey's talents. Dino doesn't like what he sees and wants to prove he's the better man. So he challenges Tobey to a race with a friend in tow. During the race, Tobey's friend is killed and he knows Dino is to blame for it but he can't prove it .So he goes to jail for the crime and when he gets out, he wants to go after Dino to prove he's innocent. With a bounty on his head and having to race across the country to participate in a race, can Tobey really win his personal race once and for all?
The Toddster's Take- Movies based on video games don't really do well and there is a lot lost when trying to change mediums. That being said, this was a terrific story with a lot of action and the driving scenes were impressive. Paul has great potential and I hope he picks some good roles now that "Breaking Bad" is done. See this one.
Divergent- What if you lived in a place where you wanted to make your own choices but weren't able to? Tris (Shailene Woodley) lived in a future society where everyone who lived was divided up into factions because of the choices they made. Once they made that choice, they wouldn't be able to change their minds or go back. The factions did everything from taking care of the crops and taking care of the people to solving the problems in society and protecting the people. Tris wasn't really sure what she wanted to do. When someone was tested to see which faction they best fit into, that was it. Tris's tests weren't conclusive and she was considered divergent. This was someone who thought for themselves and could make their own choices. People like this were considered dangerous and wee hunted down and killed. Tris meets an instructor named Four (Theo James) and starts training her. He's surprised to see how quickly she takes to it. They learn of a plot by one of their leaders that one faction is trying to take control over the others and have to find a way to stop it. Can they do it?
The Toddster's Take- When you go into the Theater to see a movie, you're there for the duration. Based on the best selling book, I never read it but I thought the story was a really good one. If you liked the book, you will like this. However, the story was a little too slow and this made the movie a bit too long for my taste. Woodley was excellent and the rest of the costars made this movie fairly good. Will pick up the DVD for sure.
The Toddster has been on Theater patrol with my friends at the Colonia Theatre and you can always check out their updated website at www.thecoloniatheatre.com for all upcoming movies and events or you can call them at 334-2135. The Toddster will be back.
