JOHNSON CITY – Funeral services for David Smith, the Johnson City police officer who was fatally shot by a medicial technician from Greene, are set for this week.
Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski said Tuesday that calling hours for the fallen officer will be held Thursday, followed by funeral services on Friday. Services are set to be held at a church just streets away from where his death occured on Monday.
According to authorities, it is still unknown why James Clark, 43, Greene, approached Smith, grabbed his duty weapon from him, and shot the officer.
Reports also indicate that Clark fired at another officer who arrived at the scene. That officer then returned fire at Clark, killing him.
Smith was 43 years old and an 18 year veteran of the Johnson City Police Department.
