Unadilla Valley started off hot and relied on the pitching
of Jackie Smith to defeat Walton in an opening-day
victory Tuesday.
Jackie Smith saw 28 batters, threw four strikeouts and allowed only four hits. "Jackie’s inside fastball was
working really well. What was really helping her during
the game is that she was getting ahead (in the count.) She would get strikes on Walton early and then she mixed her pitches up. That helped her out a lot, getting ahead on the batters,” said Unadilla Valley varsity softball head coach Hannah Johnson. Smith had good rise on some of her pitches.
Unadilla Valley started the third inning up by two runs
and Walton battled back to take the lead with a three run
