BAINBRIDGE – Sure as the return of daffodils in May, The General Clinton Canoe Regatta will again draw upon the excitement of more than 1,000 canoe racers and as many as 10,000 spectators later this month.

Slated for the weekend of May 23-26, the regatta – now in its 52 year – offers an array of unique and enticing entertainment, competition and good old family fun.

Presented by the Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce, the annual celebration on the Susquehanna river features the longest one-day flat water canoe race in all of North America where both budding amateur and professional canoeists compete for cash and prizes.

Staying true to its namesake, the sport of river canoeing serves as the spectacle for many, and navigating the mild turbidity of the Susquehanna is a challenge for paddlers across the gamut.

The weekend starts Friday night with the generation gaps races. Saturday brings in the Boy and Girl Scouts from all over the Northeast. Sunday features the ten person Grand Prix relay races from Oneonta. Monday will bring professional and amateur canoeists from all over the world, as they challenge the Susquehanna River for 70 miles.
