NORWICH – A citizen of Great Britain and man living in Guilford entered a plea of guilty in Chenango County Court Monday for the class C felony of aggravated sexual abuse in the second degree and is expected to be sentenced to 8 years in a New York State Prison. Another man admitted to violating the terms of his probation.

• Mark Crawford, 46, Guilford, pled guilty to second degree aggravated sexual abuse, admitting he did take part in an unlawful sexual act with a child under the age of 11 in October of 2013. The victim was under the age of 3 at the time of the incident.

Chenango County Court Judge Frank B. Revoir Jr. issued an order of protection in favor of the victim (and other family members), ordering Crawford no contact for the maximum time allowed by law. The protection order will remain in effect until May 12, 2045.

Based upon an agreed upon disposition, Crawford is likely to be sentenced to 8 years in prison with 15 years of post-release supervision. Crawford will be expected to pay the $50 DNA sample fee, and the money to pay that surcharge is to be withheld from his earnings while incarcerated.

“As a result of your guilty plea today, you understand that there is a high likelihood you will be deported after your sentence, do you understand?” asked Revoir. Crawford said he understood.

“It is highly likely – if not guaranteed – you’ll be deported, and in all likelihood your attempts to be naturalized in the United States will be thwarted, as well as re-entry into the United States,” said Revoir.

Sentencing in the matter was adjourned for the earliest possible date. District Attorney Joseph McBride said he wanted to make contact with the victim’s family so that they could be present at sentencing if they so wished.

Crawford was remanded back to the CCCF where he’ll await sentencing.

• Matthew DeVaul, 19, Ninevah, admitted to violating the terms of his probation and was re-sentenced by the court.

DeVaul was previously sentenced to five years of probation for an attempted burglary charge. He admitted that he violated the terms and conditions of his probation by leaving the county, and said on the record that he was indeed in the City of Binghamton in September of 2013.

Judge Revoir re-sentenced DeVaul to one year to be served at the CCCF concurrent with another sentence out of the City of Norwich Court. He is additionally to pay restitution in the amount of $388.43 – with a 5 percent surcharge to the probation department – within 6 months of his release from jail.

He was remanded back to the custody of the CCCF to carry out his sentence.
