Woman pleads guilty to attempted assault

NORWICH – A woman originally indicted on the charges of assault in the second degree, assault in the third degree, and reckless endangerment in the second degree for the alleged stabbing of her sister appeared in Chenango County Court on Tuesday for her plea.

Sherry L. Taranto, 49, of Norwich pleaded guilty to the reduced sentence of attempted assault in the second degree, a class E felony. She will serve interim probation for a year and will reappear in court on May 22, 2015, for her sentencing. Honorable Judge Frank B. Revoir, Jr. explained that if Taranto successfully meets the requirements as outlined in her probation, she will face the charge of assault in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor.

Taranto was originally arrested for attempting to cause physical injury to her sister by attempting to cut the sister's right wrist with a parring knife on August 23, 2013, in Norwich.
