SHERBURNE – The Memorial Day service at Sherburne-Earlville Elementary School had a big impact on the second grade class. As a result of their interactions with veterans, second graders decided to start Socks for Soldiers.
“Every year our school does a Veteran dinner,” said Diane Morbidini, a second grade teacher. “My students were interested in the veterans. We had a few who came in and shared their stories and pictures.”
She explained that Holly Crouch, Senior Master Sergeant and second grade teacher, served as their point of contact. Crouch recognized the need for items such as socks, which would be easy for the students to collect.
